Fundraising for Animals Asia

Leading animal protection charity Animals Asia hosted a fundraising event at Plaisterers’ Hall, attended by a star-studded guest list including cast members of Downton Abbey. Also in attendance was Virginia McKenna OBE, star of the film Born Free, who is a patron of the charity.

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu, with 20 guests opting for a vegan menu, prepared by our in-house chefs.

The meal began with a burnt onion tartlet, served with whipped Cornish yarg, gooseberry chutney, pine nut and parsley vinaigrette. The main course was a cauliflower cheese soufflé; accompanied by crispy fingerling potatoes, roast carrots, spinach and parsley cream. The meal finished with a dessert of glazed organic lemon tart, raspberries, lemon and basil jelly and crème fraîche sorbet, followed by coffee and petit fours.

The Great Hall set the scene for the occasion; tables were dressed in floral decorations, with paw prints set on silver stands. A stage was added to the grand room, with a piano taking pride of place beside it.

The event also made use of adjoining rooms such as the Mott Room, Humber Room and Livery Hall, where auction prizes were displayed. Following the meal guests enjoyed a performance by Rick Wakeman, of rock band ‘YES’.

Founded in 1998, the Animals Asia team has been rescuing moon bears since 1994 and is the only organisation with a bear sanctuary in China. The charity’s founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE, Dr.med.vet. h.c., is widely recognised as the world’s leading expert on the cruel bear bile industry, having campaigned against it since 1993.

Plaisterers’ Hall is a popular choice for fundraising events; get in touch for more information.
