Looking for ideas on what to see and do in London this Easter?
Here are some eggcellent events taking place in the capital during the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, which begins on 14th April. There’s more to Easter than egg-hunting and chocolatey indulgence; these are some of our favourite ideas for Easter celebrations.
Easter Chocolate Workshop, My Chocolate, De Beauvoir Town
Make weird and wacky chocolate creations this Easter at My Chocolate’s special workshop for cocoa loves. Build a giant flat egg or squashed chick from molten chocolate, using dipping forks to create marbled effects.
The Passion of Jesus, Trafalgar Square
In Trafalgar Square, on Good Friday, you can attend The Passion of Jesus, where 20,000 people will gather to see a 90-minute production telling the story of Jesus’ final days. The event is free, and sign language interpretation is also available.
East Giant Duck Hunt, WWT London Wetland Centre
From April 1-17, the East Giant Duck Hunt is held at the WWT London Wetland Centre near Putney and Richmond-on-Thames. It costs just £1 per person (excluding admission to the centre), and the winner – whoever finds all the hidden ducklings – gets to take home a fantastic chocolate prize!
Tall Ships Regatta, Greenwich
See the spectacular Tall Ships Regatta at Greenwich from April 13 to April 16. The event includes a grand Parade of Sail at 5pm on April 16, after which the fleet of more than 30 ships will go on a 7,000-nautical-mile journey all the way to Canada, arriving in Quebec in the summer. Don’t forget to visit the National Maritime Museum and the Greenwich Royal Observatory as well.
Dulwich Picture Gallery
On April 15th, parents with young children can head to the Dulwich Picture Gallery in the picturesque neighbourhood of Dulwich in south London to make Indian kites and experiment with melting plastics. And on the same day you could take the family the Clapham Common Easter Funfair for some fantastic fairground fun in one of south London’s great parks.
Clapham Common Easter Fun Fair
Take the family the Clapham Common Easter fun fair for some fantastic fairground fun in one of south London’s great parks.
Springfest, Alexandra Palace
If you’re a festival fan, on April 14th head north to Alexandra Palace for Springfest, a brilliant live music event with plenty of great beer and food.
London Easter 10km
The London Easter 10k takes place on April 17th, comprising a 10k course suitable for everyone from beginners to professional athletes. As a reward, delicious Easter eggs and other Easter goodies will await you at the finishing line. However, if you’d prefer to take part in something a little less gruelling, you could also participate in the shorter two-mile fun run for adults and children. These races raise funds for The Children’s Trust, which supports children with brain injuries.
