The Best of British at Plaisterers’ Hall

Last month Create’s sister company, Mask Event Design and Production, planned a quintessential Best of British party at Plaisterers’ Hall. Guests were greeted with a Champagne and rhubarb refresher reception in the foyer and asked to explore what surprises lay hidden within the beautiful neo–classical venue. Union Jack bunting welcomed guests in the hall, while signposts directing guests toward Abbey Road, Buckingham Palace and a Street Party adorned the walls. Classical red phone booths were on hand in case someone forgot their mobile, while Royal Mail letter boxes also invited guests to send a postcard to those unable to attend.

Before arriving in the main hall, guests could indulge in a delectable chocolate fountain, which in true Mask fashion had retro dippers like pink wafers, jammy dodgers, snow balls and mini doughnuts…complemented, of course, with a significant offering of edible glitter to dip and decorate before devouring. The titillating delicacies were only the beginning! Whilst emerging to the main hall guests were invited to pose with props for a photographer with a life sized cut–out of Kate & Wills smiling profusely in front of a ginormous backdrop of Buckingham Palace. Full Circle’s DJ Gary spun Best of British tunes by the Spice Girls, S Club 7 and Girls Aloud, while guests noshed on Create’s mini fish and chips in newspaper cones or mini pies with mash and mushy peas in cardboard boxes.

Comedy footmen roamed about the party: photo bombing guests and dropping fake dead mice behind ladies to scare them! The Livery Hall served as Ye Olde Pub for the evening, complete with lanterns, a wood panelled bar, chesterfields and a pub landlord encouraging guests to enter the grand purpose–built pub façade for some debauchery within. A conspicuous photo booth attracted pub goers’ to document the evening and on departure, mini bags of pork scratchings and peanuts were available for guests to take away.

Cut to the main act of the evening: a Beatle’s tribute band playing, such classics as A Hard Days Night, I Feel Fine and Can’t Buy Me Love, got guests to boogie down enthusiastically. There wasn’t a foot in sight that wasn’t dancing! And to top the evening off…a tradition of a tune: New York, New York. Our trusty footmen entertained and waved goodbye (literally again, and again) till the very last guest rounded the corner out of sight…a very splendid evening indeed!
